Brit Heller Brit Heller

Keeping your NABCEP certification current showcases your ongoing dedication to professional growth and mastery in the solar energy field. Plus, let’s be real – nobody wants to take that grueling certification exam again if their credentials expire! As your NABCEP Professional Certification renewal date approaches, it may be helpful to review what the recertification process entails.

This comprehensive overview outlines the renewal requirements for these NABCEP Professional Certifications: PV Installation Professional (PVIP), PV Technical Sales Professional (PVTS), PV Design Specialist (PVDS), PV Commissioning & Maintenance Specialist (PVCMS), PV Installation Specialist (PVIS), and Energy Storage Installation Professional (ESIP).

Note that the NABCEP PV Associate Credential and PV System Inspector Certification have slightly different renewal procedures.

Recertification Requirements Overview

Every 3 years, NABCEP Professional Certifications need to be renewed through the Certemy platform. The core requirements encompass:

  • Payment of the $390 renewal fee
  • Agreement to the NABCEP Code of Ethics
  • Letter documenting professional industry involvement
  • Fulfillment of continuing education units (CEUs)

Continuing Education

Continuing education is a crucial part of the recertification process. This requirement ensures professionals stay current with rapidly evolving solar technologies, updated safety standards, and changing industry regulations.  Most NABCEP Board Certifications (excluding the PV System Inspector) mandate 30 CEUs total, with designated portions covering the electric codes, renewable energy electives, building/fire codes, and job task analysis specific to your certification specialty.

Below is a breakdown of CEU requirements for all NABCEP Professional Certifications and the PV Associate Credential.

At HeatSpring, we feature convenient reference charts on all courses offering NABCEP credit. Look for these details by navigating to the course page and scrolling to the “Approved NABCEP CEU Hours” section.
