Your Guide to Renewing Your NABCEP Certification Brit Heller Recertification season has a way of sneaking up on you. One minute your NABCEP is brand new, the next you’re getting an email that your three years are almost up. The good news is that if you get ahead of it now instead of scrambling in the final moments, renewing is genuinely easy and straightforward. There’s just a few requirements to check off. Here’s what to know before your deadline is staring you in the face. Which Certifications Does This Cover? This guide applies to renewal for the following NABCEP Professional Certifications: PV Installation Professional (PVIP) PV Technical Sales Professional (PVTS) PV Design Specialist (PVDS) PV Commissioning & Maintenance Specialist (PVCMS) PV Installation Specialist (PVIS) Energy Storage Installation Professional (ESIP) Heads up: if you hold the PV Associate Credential, PV System Inspector Certification, or Operations & Maintenance Associate for Technicians Credential, your renewal process requires less than what’s outlined here. What NABCEP Recertification Requires NABCEP Professional Certifications run on a three-year renewal cycle, managed through the Certemy platform. To renew, you’ll need to handle four things: Pay the $390 renewal fee Sign off on NABCEP’s Code of Ethics Submit a letter verifying your involvement in the industry Complete your required continuing education units (CEUs) Your CEU Requirements Explained Solar codes, safety standards, and equipment change constantly, so the CEU requirement exists to make sure your knowledge doesn’t go stale between renewal cycles. For most NABCEP Professional Certifications (the PV System Inspector is the exception), that means 30 total CEUs, split across categories like electric code, renewable energy electives, building and fire code, and job task analysis tied to your specific credential. HeatSpring makes it simple to see exactly how a course applies toward your renewal. Every course page with NABCEP-approved credit includes an “Approved NABCEP CEU Hours” chart, so you know exactly what you’re getting before you enroll. This CEU chart is from the Solar PV & BESS Operations & Maintenance Tech 2 Training Courses That Can Get You There Looking to knock out the full 30 hours in one go?
