IREC’s New Courses on EV Charging Infrastructure

Brian Hayden Brian Hayden

I’m hyped up about a new partnership between HeatSpring and the Interstate Renewable Energy Council (IREC) to help utilities and local governments deploy electric vehicle charging infrastructure more efficiently.

The journey from planning to powering up can make or break charging infrastructure projects. So IREC just published three free courses to help utilities and local governments streamline the EV charger energization process. Here’s the bundle. Three clicks and you’ll be learning:

Access to quality information helps smart projects happen faster

At the heart of this partnership is a simple but powerful belief: when organizations have access to clear, actionable information, they can deploy critical infrastructure faster and more efficiently. Both HeatSpring and IREC have built our reputations on making high-quality clean energy education easier to find.

IREC brings decades of expertise in regulatory policy, workforce development, and technical assistance for clean energy deployment. Through initiatives like their Charging Smart program, they’ve been at the forefront of identifying and addressing the bottlenecks that slow EV charging infrastructure rollout. HeatSpring contributes our proven platform for delivering professional training to the clean energy workforce—trusted by 70% of Solar Power World’s Top Contractors for employee learning.

Three Free Courses on EV Charging Infrastructure

Here’s a breakdown of the individual courses:

Introduction to EV Charger Energization provides the foundational knowledge all stakeholders need. This course analyzes the complete energization journey, examining key stakeholder roles, project variations, and critical decision points across the multi-step implementation process. Built on technical research from EPRI and insights from IREC’s Charging Smart program, it establishes the common language and understanding necessary for efficient collaboration.

EV Charger Energization Roadmap for Utilities equips utility professionals with specific strategies for streamlining service connections and customer engagement, particularly for small fleet and multi-family housing charging projects. The course addresses the unique regulatory and operational challenges utilities face when managing the surge in charging infrastructure requests.

EV Charger Energization Roadmap for Local Governments helps municipal officials navigate permitting, planning, and coordination processes that can either facilitate or impede charging infrastructure deployment. This course recognizes that local governments play a pivotal role as both regulators and often as charging infrastructure hosts themselves.

Moving forward together

When good information flows freely, infrastructure follows. Let’s build the charging network of the future, together. As electric vehicles become mainstream and charging demands grow more complex, the collaboration between utilities, local governments, and other stakeholders will only become more critical. This partnership between HeatSpring and IREC establishes a model for how education and information sharing can accelerate the clean energy transition.

We invite utilities, local governments, and anyone involved in EV charging infrastructure to take advantage of these free courses. The knowledge you gain won’t just help your organization—it will help build the charging network our communities need and our climate demands.
