Slipstream’s “Smart Building Training Series” now on HeatSpring

HeatSpring has partnered with Slipstream to offer a “Smart Buildings Training Series” designed for building and energy professionals. The whole thing takes about sixteen hours to complete, but it’s broken down into five smaller courses:

2. Smart Building Systems
3. Sensors and IoT Devices for Smart Buildings
4. Smart Building Controls
5. Smart Building Applications

Slipstream what we want to be when we grow up. They are a mission-driven organization making a huge impact. This Smart Buildings Series was developed in a project that was funded by the Department of Energy and now we’re distributing it so more people can use it.

The Smart Buildings Training Series comprises five comprehensive courses with 16 in-depth sessions, each developed in collaboration with leading institutions including Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service, the Society of Building Science Educators, and the National Institute of Building Sciences. Originally designed as a semester-long curriculum for college students, this adapted content specifically targets working professionals.

Here’s some of what’s covered:

• Introduction to smart building technologies, drivers, and benefits
• Smart building systems (HVAC, lighting controls, solar PV, battery storage, EV charging)
• Advanced sensors and IoT devices implementation
• Smart building controls platforms and cybersecurity
• Grid-interactive efficient buildings (GEBs) and occupant-centric control strategies

Each video session ranges from 35 minutes to just over an hour, making the content digestible for busy professionals while still providing substantial depth.

• Dr. Xiaohui “Joe” Zhou, Director of Research and Innovation at Slipstream, with over 30 years of commercial building controls experience

• Ron Bernstein, CEO of RBCG Consulting, an expert in IoT and open systems approaches to building automation
