We have exciting news to share with our community – HeatSpring is now a Certified B Corporation! While creating positive impact has always been a part of our ethos here at HeatSpring, this certification marks a big shift—we’re now quantifying and measuring that impact. By formalizing our long-standing values through B Corp Certification, we’ve taken the first step in a transparent, accountable journey toward creating a future where we all thrive.

First Things, First – What is a B Corp?

B Corporations are part of a worldwide movement of companies that meet high standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability. The certification is administered by B Lab, the nonprofit network transforming the global economy to benefit all people, communities, and the planet. Their international network of organizations leads economic systems change to support our collective vision of an inclusive, equitable, and regenerative economy.

Unlike traditional companies that primarily focus on creating value for shareholders, B Corps commit to creating value for all stakeholders – including employees, customers, communities, and the environment. This aligns perfectly with our mission to accelerate the clean energy transition while helping people build fulfilling careers and businesses.

Why B Corp Certification Matters

Since our founding in 2007, HeatSpring has been dedicated to upskilling professionals for the clean energy transition. As climate change presents unprecedented challenges to all of us, we believe businesses must lead with purpose and responsibility.

B Corp Certification reflects our belief that business success and positive impact must go hand in hand.

Our B Corp certification supports what we’ve always believed:

  • That addressing climate change requires collective action and knowledge sharing
  • That quality education should be accessible (174 of our 339 courses are free!)
  • That transparency builds trust and drives improvement (from publicly sharing course reviews and enrollment numbers to now openly reporting our B Corp Impact Score)
  • That people and relationships are at the heart of meaningful change

Our B Corp Journey

Becoming a B Corp isn’t filling out an application and being done. The certification process is rigorous, involving a comprehensive assessment of our company’s impact on our workers, customers, community, and environment. It required us to look closely at our operations, governance, and business model to ensure we’re creating value beyond monetary profit.

We’re proud to have achieved an initial B Impact score of 92 out of 250 – solidly above the minimum 80 points required for certification. But we see this as just the beginning. As HeatSpring Co-Founder Brian Hayden put it, “B Corp is less a destination and more a way of traveling.” It provides a framework for building a sustainable business that will guide our decisions and improvements going forward.

While B Lab doesn’t make the certification process easy, the Impact Assessment is fair and absolutely worth the effort. It highlighted both our strengths and areas where we can grow, giving us clear direction on how to deepen our positive impact over time. We’re excited to see how our score will improve as we make incremental changes aligned with our values.

What’s Next?

This certification is just the start of our newly refined focus. As a B Corp, we’re joining a community of more than 6,000 businesses worldwide who are using their power to build a more inclusive and regenerative economy. Our certification means that we’re committed to continuous improvement and will recertify every three years, setting new goals and continually raising our standards.

Join Us in This Movement

The clean energy transition continues to advance, despite potential policy shifts that may moderate the extraordinary growth rates we’ve seen in recent years. Even with a changing political landscape, the fundamental economics and momentum behind renewable energy remain strong. Renewable energy installations will continue, albeit potentially at a more measured pace than previously projected.

In this evolving environment, having a well-trained workforce becomes even more critical. Companies that invest in their teams’ skills and knowledge will be better positioned to navigate market fluctuations and capitalize on opportunities. HeatSpring’s role in providing this essential education aligns with our B Corp values of supporting resilient, forward-thinking organizations.

We invite you—whether you’re a current student, team training leader, instructor, or partner—to celebrate this milestone with us and join us in our mission to build a more sustainable, equitable future through education and community.
