Safety Pro – A New Badge for Jobsite Safety Fundamentals

Brian Hayden Brian Hayden

We just added a new badge to the Pro library: Safety Pro. It’s a bundle of four courses that each address a distinct and common jobsite hazard — material handling, falls, electrical work, and heavy equipment operation. It’s a broadly applicable learning path that covers the hazards that show up on nearly every solar, storage, and HVAC jobsite, regardless of a technician’s specialty.

The Courses

Materials Handling Safety (Jenny Conrardy) covers the OSHA standards around lifting, carrying, and storing materials on a construction site. The course addresses proper lifting technique, load assessment, and the ergonomic and mechanical hazards that account for a large share of non-fatal construction injuries — sprains, strains, and crush injuries from improperly handled materials.

Competent Person Fall Protection Training (Jenny Conrardy) is built around OSHA’s “competent person” designation — the standard that requires a trained individual on-site who can identify and correct fall hazards. The course covers fall hazard recognition, PPE selection and inspection, anchor point requirements, and the documentation needed to designate someone as competent under OSHA 1926 Subpart M.

6-Hour NFPA 70E Electrical Safety Training (Jason Brozen) is the most technical course in the badge. It covers the NFPA 70E Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace, including arc flash boundaries, shock risk categories, PPE category selection, and lockout/tagout procedures. This course also serves as prep material for the NFPA Certified Electrical Safety Technician (CEST) exam, so it carries value beyond the badge itself for technicians working toward that credential.

Telehandler Safety Training and Certification (Jenny Conrardy) satisfies OSHA’s formal training requirement for telehandler (telescopic forklift) operators. It covers pre-operation inspection, load charts and capacity calculations, stability on uneven terrain, and the operating practices specific to telehandlers as opposed to standard forklifts.

The Pro Library is Growing

The existing badges — for Energy Storage, Solar Service, and Building Systems — are organized around technical specialties. Safety Pro is the first badge built around a hazard category instead of a technology or job function, which means it’s relevant to a Pro subscriber regardless of which other badge they’re pursuing. A technician working toward Energy Storage Pro and a salesperson working toward Skilled Sales Pro both encounter the hazards this badge addresses, so Safety Pro functions less as a specialty credential and more as a baseline layer underneath the others.

HeatSpring Pro is Netflix or Clean Energy Nerds

Safety Pro is included with a HeatSpring Pro subscription, which costs $89 per month or $890 per year and includes unlimited access to all 28 courses in the Pro library — a combined individual value of $9,000+ along with all the Pro badges: Energy Storage Pro, Solar Service Pro, Building Systems Pro and now Safety Pro. Subscribers can work through badge courses in any order, and badges earned through Pro don’t expire or depend on an active subscription — once a subscriber completes a badge’s courses, it’s theirs to keep and display, including through LinkedIn integration and a verifiable credential link. Pro also includes everything in HeatSpring Plus, so any individually purchased courses stay accessible past their standard one-year access window for as long as the subscription is active.
