New Course: Forklift Operator Training

Brit Heller Brit Heller

HeatSpring just launched Forklift Operator Training, a two-hour online course that covers the formal instruction portion of OSHA-required forklift certification.

Why take this course

Forklifts, or powered industrial trucks, are a staple in countless warehouses and industrial facilities. OSHA requires employers to certify every operator through three steps: formal instruction, hands-on training on the specific equipment, and a performance evaluation. This course delivers the first step, fully online and self-paced.

Completing it doesn’t finish the certification process on its own. Workers still need practical training on their employer’s equipment and a passing evaluation before they’re cleared to operate, but this course covers everything OSHA requires for the classroom portion.

What’s inside

The course is taught by Jenny Conrardy, a journeyman electrician and NABCEP PVIP-certified instructor. You’ll learn:

  • OSHA 1910.178 and ANSI B56.1 standards, and the seven classes of powered industrial trucks
  • Stability and load capacity, including the stability triangle, load center, and capacity data plate
  • Pre-operation inspection, safe travel, and load-handling procedures
  • Fueling and charging safety across combustion and electric trucks
  • Hazard recognition around pedestrians, ramps, docks, narrow aisles, and hazardous atmospheres

Additionally, the course includes a Q&A with Jacob Krigbaum, owner of Proven Solutions Corporation, who touches on common forklift issues, load capacity training, and pedestrian-forklift interactions based on his work across construction, manufacturing, agriculture, and maritime industries.

Knowledge checks are built into each module, so learners can confirm they’ve absorbed the material before moving on.

Certification and access

Students who complete the course earn a certificate of completion documenting two hours of forklift operator training. Course access lasts a full year after enrollment, so there’s no pressure to finish in one sitting.

This course is also included in HeatSpring CORE, HeatSpring’s 24-course construction training program covering universal first-year curriculum for all construction trades.
