Meet Brittany Heller – Instructor Spotlight

Brit Heller Brit Heller

Behind every transformative learning experience at HeatSpring is a dedicated instructor- someone who brings not just knowledge, but passion, real-world experience, and a commitment to helping others grow. Though our online courses connect with students across the globe, there’s often little opportunity for learners to get to know the actual people creating and delivering that content.

That’s why we launched our Instructor Spotlight series – to introduce you to the individuals who make HeatSpring’s learning community so special. Today, I’m turning the spotlight on myself to share a bit about who I am, my background, and the path that led me to teaching with HeatSpring.

Hello, I’m Brittany Heller!

Top Course: Solar Career Pathways

What was your first job in the industry?

In January 2015, I started a door knocker generating residential solar leads in New Orleans. Luckily, I only had that job for about 2 weeks, before I was moved up.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever gotten?

Create more than you consume.

What’s a quote you think about often?

“The day you plant the seed is not the day you eat the fruit.”

I am a few years into turning a 17-acre property into an epic regenerative medicinal herb farm. It’s a long process. I’m talking like 10 years of building infrastructure, soil health, and plant communities. Sometimes I get frustrated for not pushing further faster, but then I think about this quote and chill out.

What are your hobbies?

My hobbies tend to center around farming. I have a ton of fun building infrastructure projects. My all-time favorite thing to do is spend quality time with my animals and plants.

I love practicing and teaching yoga. Lately, I’ve been hosting community care yoga + dinners on the farm.

Scuba diving is another love of mine. I got my Divemasters as a solar coaster backup plan when I had to stop selling in Louisiana back in 2015 because of policy uncertainty.

I used to be a big backpacker, traveling all over the world mostly solo. I still do that occasionally, but much less often with 80 animals and a farm.

What’s a fun fact about you that your students don’t know?

I lived in South America for several years in my 20s. It was my early career dream to open a hostel abroad, which I did in Chile. To be honest, I thought it was going to be a lot cooler than it really was in reality. You live and you learn!

Best book I’ve ever read?

The Serviceberry by Robin Wall Kimmerer feels almost like my manifesto. I bought 10+ copies and gave them to all my friends. It talks about living in reciprocity with the natural world and gratitude being the currency that keeps everything together. It’s a short read and I highly recommend.

Anything else you think would be fun to share?

I recently got a grant to research building out a local herbal medicine cooperative, connecting growers and medicine makers directly to consumers. We’re calling it the West Georgia Herbal Collective. Cooperative business models can be challenging to figure out, but it feels like the only way to be successful in farming. I’m excited to see how it goes!
