Nanoracks Co-founder Teaching New Commercial Space Course Brian Hayden We’re proud to announce that Charles Miller, Co-founder of Nanoracks, will be teaching our “Commercial Space Executive Leadership Training” that begins on Monday, February 2nd. This in-depth program has been in development for more than a year. The goal is to prepare the next generation of commercial space leaders by helping them to launch products and companies to drive the industry forward. About Charles Miller Mr. Miller is the President of NexGen Space LLC, which provides client services at the intersection of commercial, civil, and national security space and public policy. He has consulted for a wide variety of space organizations including NASA, DARPA, Air Force Research Laboratory, Space Florida, and numerous space companies, both big and small. Mr. Miller served as NASA Senior Advisor for Commercial Space where he advised senior NASA leaders on commercial space options and strategies. He served as the leader of a half dozen NASA emerging commercial space teams that assessed investment barriers to commercial space projects, utilization of funded space act agreements, and commercial solutions for orbital debris removal, satellite servicing, orbital transfer vehicles, and propellant depots. He also served as NASA’s first program executive for the Commercial Reusable Suborbital Research program, and as manager of NASA’s Commercial RLV Technology Roadmap study. Mr. Miller is the co-founder of Nanoracks LLC, a disruptive entrepreneurial venture that has delivered more than 200 payloads to date to the International Space Station (ISS). He also co-founded Constellation Services International, Inc. (CSI) which was an early competitor for NASA’s ISS cargo resupply business. In the 1990s, Miller was the founder of ProSpace, which was called “The Citizens’ Space Lobby.” Under Miller’s leadership, ProSpace was instrumental in the passage of space-related legislative initiatives, including the Commercial Space Act of 1998, funding for NASA’s X-33, Future-X and Space Solar Power programs, and the U.S. Air Force’s RLV Technology Development program. About the “Commercial Space Executive Leadership Training” The near-term business opportunities in commercial space are staggering. For every high-profile success like SpaceX or Virgin Galactic, there are dozens of telecommunications, infrastructure, and energy ventures that are experiencing massive growth right now. This is a rare opportunity for existing firms and entrepreneurs to quantify their opportunity in commercial space and create a map for achieving success. Developed in partnership with the AIAA, this course is advanced and intended for professionals with a strong technical or business background. Commercial Space Executive Leadership is a comprehensive course that addresses the key aspects of design, systems engineering, space applications, business and finance fundamentals. This will include discussion of the “Commercial Leverage Model” which provides a good conceptual model and practical framework for the private/public partnerships driving this industry. This course is for both entrepreneurs and existing companies. The really exciting thing about commercial space right now is that you don’t have to be part of the government of any country to fly things in space. Private citizens for relatively small amounts of money (less than $50,000) can fly experiments in space now and this should expand significantly over the next 5-10 years.
