About Remi Tan – LEED AP Senior Architect, KMD|Stevens

Remi Tan is a licensed senior architect, sustainability consultant, and real estate broker with 21 years of experience in a broad range of domestic and international commercial and residential projects. He is an expert in all aspects of sustainable design – siting, energy conservation, sustainable materials, and smart growth. Mr. Tan has worked on the LEED-NC Platinum SFPUC building with KMD|Stevens. Previously, Mr. Tan was the sustainability manager at Heller Manus Architects, where he lead the design and LEED submittal for the Emeryville Marketplace project, the first LEED for Neighborhood Development Pilot Platinum Stage-1 project in the country. He oversaw sustainability of all projects, including the first LEED-CS-Gold office tower in SF, and sustainability concepts for several large urban master-plans in China. Mr. Tan is co-vice-chair of Pacifica’s Green Building Taskforce developing Pacifica’s green building ordinance, and was a former planning commissioner there. He serves on the Greenbelt Alliance’s review team for endorsing smart-growth projects, the Pacifica School District’s Green Committee, and SPUR’s Sustainable Development committee.

The World’s Largest Side-by-Side HVAC Experiment

Peter Rumsey, tasked with creating “the most efficient building in India, if not the world”, discusses his experiences designing the Infosys Hyderabad Software Development Block in this Free Lecture. This H-Shaped building, physically split between a VAV System and a Radiant System, provided a direct side by side comparison gaging energy savings, comfort and air quality.

About Peter Rumsey – Founder/CEO, Point Energy Innovations

Peter Rumsey, PE, LEED AP BD+C, CEM, FASHRAE is widely recognized as a global leader in energy efficiency and sustainable building system design. Peter has worked in the engineering and energy consulting industry for 25 years. He has directed the design of 17 LEED Platinum Certified projects, as well as 3 Living Building Challenge and 12 Net Zero projects. Peter has been responsible for many key innovations in energy efficient design and analysis, including pioneering the use of chilled beams, efficient outside air systems that eliminate reheat, radiant cooling systems, low pressure drop systems in U.S. laboratories, and the use of guaranteed performance contracts for HVAC systems ­ based solely on measured system data. Additionally, one of his major areas of innovation is making green affordable. Peter is an ASHRAE Fellow and Senior Fellow of Rocky Mountain Institute. He is a lecturer at Stanford University and has a Mechanical Engineering Degree from U.C. Berkeley. Peter founded Rumsey Engineers in 1998 which was acquired by Integral Group in 2009. He then served as Integral’s West Coast Director and Chief Technology Officer. He has consulted to venture capital firms in Silicon Valley and several successful start ups. He has worked worldwide, consulting in North and South America, Europe, Asia and Africa.
